High & Dry: Homeowner uses Stepoc to build own flood defence
Nick Lupton, a homeowner in Worcestershire, took matters into his own hands to protect his 17th-century house from frequent flooding. Since moving in 2016, his property has been flooded eleven times, prompting him to build a flood defence wall using Stepoc, Ibstock's precast concrete block retaining wall system.
The Stepoc system, known for its ease of installation and strong structural integrity, allowed Nick to build most of the wall himself, with minimal contractor assistance. Completed in September 2023, the wall successfully withstood severe floods brought by Storm Henk in January 2024, proving its effectiveness. This case highlights the growing need for robust flood defences as extreme weather becomes more common.
