I chose to do an apprenticeship as it was something different to Sixth Form, where I can learn and get on-the-job training together. I feel the apprenticeship programme will be very beneficial as I am looking forward to gaining a good understanding of factory operations and processes, while my degree will broaden my knowledge of materials beyond just Mercian mudstone. "My apprenticeship at Ibstock has been a brilliant start to my working life. However, the path to this point was not so smooth. Growing up, I found the education system challenging. It’s not designed to support students with additional needs such as my Autism and ADHD. The structure of a university course doesn’t always support autism in the way we need. Working at Ibstock has really enabled me to understand the working environment and gain some amazing experience alongside qualifications. I get to develop my skills working with mineral products and train to join management, where I can use my experiences to really make a difference for those following my path who will need support."
